DESCRIPTION:
Geopolicity was contracted by the French Development Agency (Agence française de développement, AFD) and African Development Bank (AfDB) to undertake a comprehensive study on the economic growth and employment potential in Egypt. The study aimed at (i) identify the drivers of long-term growth and adequate employment generation in Egypt (ii) define the scope of Government action necessary to enable growth, employment and
employability (skills promotion) and, (iii) promote a dialogue between AFD/AFDB and the Egyptian Government on economic development, employment generation, and vocational training.
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:
A comprehensive year long study, based on in country data collection, leading to a (i) Political Economy Analysis for Egypt from the perspective of economic growth and employment dynamics and, (ii) a growth diagnostic study providing comprehensive information on the factors and forces driving and blocking economic development in Egypt. The study provided the sources of growth and led to a scenario building exercise which identified the sectors that could potentially grow at a faster pace and drive the economy to higher growth future. Geopolicity also undertook a growth and employment study including a skill gap analysis forecasting (short and medium term) on the basis of the identified sectors of future potential economic growth.
OUTCOME:
Comprehensive study report, presented to Government as the basis for engaging AFD and AfDB in determining their investment strategy.
